The territory of the present district became part of Bombay state in 1956 and Maharashtra state in 1960 as part of Parbhani district. This district was carved out from Parbhani district on 1 May 1999.
A place which was under the Nizam rule as well as under the Marathawada this is a place which has had and eclectic past and still has a very interesting mixture of people residing in it. Residents of Hingoli had experienced two big wars between Tipu Sultan and Maratha in 1803 and in 1857 between Nagpurkar and Bhosale. Being a very important military base it was an integral part of the stateof Hyderabad. Today a part of Maharashtra, it definitely does the state proud. The town, being close to the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, was of crucial strategic importance during British Raj. In the town can still be found the state farm building which was the base for British Army. As a result of military settlement, a large number of people from all over India made the town their home. Today, when you are in Hingoli you get to be in a place which is full of culture which is so rich that it makes the whole place worth exploring. This place is also famous for Dasara which is the second largest fair in the whole country. This is the time when the whole of Hingoli lights up with joy and celebration. People from all over come to this place just to be a part of this fair. With a legacy of being celebrated for 155 years this is one of the oldest fairs that is held ans participated by all communities. This is a confluence of culture such as none you have seen and one time that you will thoroughly enjoy in Hingoli.
