The Puja started from 1936. They were one of 1st Puja in the area of Mudiali. The history goes back around 200 hundred years back when these prominent South Kolkata localities were marshy land and hardly any sign of human habitation. Strangely in the midst of the wilderness there found was 2 Shiva Lingas together. We find reference of the Shiva Lingas in the archival maps with Fort William. They remained in the open sky for decades, only to be used by the bandits before their exploit on the slowly growing human habitation.
Due to the proximity of Kalightat temple people started settling down in that locality. Around 1920 planned development works in the form of filling up marshy land and forming road and places for human habitation was created. Family started settling down and with the initiation of the locals the Sri Sri Shankar Dharma Pratisthan was formed.
The Shiva Lingas were still uncared so the local families decided to create Temple’ of Lake Temple Road to do something for the historic Shiva Lingas in the year 1935.
The committee was formed and registered. The Puja started to happen at the Natmandir in the Mandir premises. In the year 1961 for the first time the Durga Puja moved out from the Mandir premises to organize in the near by field due to the increasing involvement & inflow of devotees. Again in the year 1962 the Puja was organized in the Natmandir due to non approval for indo china war. With peace residing, the Puja moved back to the field to manage easily and allow more devotees to visit and enjoy. But due to larger city development the open field remained no more vacant and so the puja shifted to the current place on lake temple road from the early seventies.
