Ramnagar sits on the Mansa Devi Nallah, a tributary of the River Tawi that flows through Jammu. It is 27 km off the Udampur-Dhar-Pathankot road. The 19th century palace, Rani's Samadhi (mausoleum) and the impressive fortress are all under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India. The palace was built by Raja Suchet Singh, brother of Maharaja Gulab Singh, the ruler of Jammu. Comprising of a Sheesh Mahal (mirrored hall), the palace has strong Rajasthani and Mughal influences. The palace has some of the finest wall paintings belonging to the Pahari School. The unique feature is the presence of wall paintings in European style in the palace.
