The 11th-century ruler of Malwa, Raja Bhoj, had many attributes to himself, some real, and some glorified by history. He was prosperous, wise, spread his empire, made some memorable monuments, Raja Bhoj fort is situatted in Naya Bhojpur Village current district Buxar and was linked to a certain character called “Gangu Teli”. His main contribution, practiced or deciphered by a mammoth five to 10 million people even today, is “Bhojpuri”. The numbers add up, if you were to consider eastern UP, Bihar, Nepal, Surinam, Fiji, Trinidad and Tobago and a motley of other such places. The baffling part of the story is, that whereas so much is required in terms of propagation, publicity and publications to make a language survive, the Indian contractual labour to these lands incorporated Creole from the Dutch and picked up English vocabulary “at random”, but never dithered from their mainstream language and pronunciation. Quite recently, there was a proposal from the home minister that Bhojpuri be incorporated in the Eighth Schedule of the “Kanstitusun” (Constitution, to come straight to the point), in “arder (order) to make this an affisial langwage” (official language), though this is the inglis translasun af whaat he said. (… English translation of what he said).
