Located at a distance of 17 kms from Palakkad en route Nelliyampathy, Pothundy Reservoir serves as an excellent stopover. Built across the Meenchadyppuzha and Padippuzha rivers which are in fact tributaries of the Ayalar River, this waterbody is situated within picturesque surroundings. Built way back in 1800 AD, Pothundy Reservoir is one of the oldest and was constructed using boulders mixed with jaggery and quick lime as pasting agent. Still in perfect condition, the Pothundy Reservoir serves as a major source of irrigation for nearby areas.
Pothundy Reservoir is a chief attraction in Nelliyampathy which is located close to Nelliyampathy from Nemmara. It is constructed on the Meenchadyppuzha and Padippuzha tributaries of the River Ayalar and is known as a pleasing and tranquil place. The beauty of this place can be experienced while boating.
