Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is home to various animals, such as tiger, elephant, barking deer, leopard, jungle cat and many more. It is situated on the foothills of the Himalayan Ranges, between River Mahananda and River Teesta. Wild pig, mountain goat, civet, monitor lizards and snakes are also found in this region. Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a number of migratory birds during the winter season. Over 150 elephants migrate to this sanctuary during the winter and monsoon seasons. This sanctuary is popular for trekking routes like Deorali, Golaghat and Latpancher-Mana.
