Kottakkunnu Hill Garden, Manjeri, Kerala India

  This is very beautiful nice garden on the hill. It is 300 meters away from Malappuram town. There is a beautiful Town hall, it called as Variamkunnath town hall at the foothill of Kottakkunnu on Manjeri road at Malappuram town (Malappuram town is called as locally Kunnummal and Up Hill.

Kottakkunnu (explain this word in english The  Mount With The Fort) is the highest point in Malappuram town. Actually, there is no fort there. It was the campsite of British military when it reached there in 1921 in large numbers to quell an uprising of Muslim peasants. The British authority used it as a firing range and many Moppila (Muslim) rebel was killed here by them. After freedom of India it is used Indian militory as firing range. So it is a great historical signficance named as Kottakkunnu grounds. On evening large numbers of people gather here to see the sunset. There had a Jubily park for childrens is made by the DTPC and a helipad also at the top of the hill. Now this ground and valley are changed as Kottakkunnu hill garden. 

Kottakkunnu is one of the leading tourist place in Kerala with immense historical importance.It is located in Malappuram District near the district collectorate in Malappuram.Kottakunnu means "Hill with a Fort". We can see traces of an old fort at the crest of the Hill. The fort was first built by the Zamorins of Kozhikode.Kottakkunnu is the highest point in Malappuram town.We can see the entire Malappuram town from its top.

Kottakkunnu is maintained by DTPC (District Tourism Promotion Council) Malappuram.It is fast developing tourist attraction with a Water theme park and Amusement park with many rides. The park is an entertainment place for all age groups from children to adults.It is an ultimate fun spot for the entire family. Children can enjoy Kiddies Train, striking car, Giant Octopus and Water Kiddy Rides. There are also various joy rides where the entire family can have fun together, which includes Water shoot, Ferris Wheel, Multi lane, Family slide, Play pen and many more.

There is a delightful restaurant and ice cream parlour on the site.There is also a helipad at the top of the colossal structure. It is also a place for peoples to spend their evenings.Panoramic view of the surrounding is the most attractive sight of Kottakkunnu.Seeing the sunset is the major attraction and people gathered here to see the sunset. During the season various shopping festivals were arranged in the valley of Kottakkunnu.Vettakkorumakan temple and Siva temple are near to Kottakkunnu.
