Dras being in the centre of the route between Srinagar and Leh on NH 1D is approachable by bus from both ends daily. State-run and private buses and mini-coaches ply on this route daily. The hub of all travel networks in the region is in Srinagar as it connects to all parts of the state so boarding a bus at Srinagar would be convenient for a traveler owing to the frequency.
Dras can be approached by road by the National Highway 1D which connects Srinagar to Leh. State-run buses, private buses and taxis ply on this route daily. NH 1D connects Dras to Baltal, Sonamarg, Ganderbal, and Srinagar on its southwest and Karbu, Kargil, Darket, Lamayuru, Khalsi, Nimmoo, Spituk and Leh on its east.
The nearest railhead to Dras is the Jammu Tawi railway station. Jammu is connected to other parts of country on broad gauge. Several passenger trains ply from various parts of the country to Jammu and one can reach Jammu overnight from New Delhi. Govt. (J&KSRTC) buses and taxis are available from the station to take you thru and fro Dras.
Leh Airport is an alternate option to Srinagar Airport. There are direct flights plying daily between New Delhi Airport and Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (Code IXL). The flight-duration is about 1 hour 15 minutes nonstop. From Leh Airport, State-run buses and pre-paid and regular Taxis are available to go to Dras in Kargil District. It takes about 5 hours to traverse this mountainous terrain route of 170 kms.
