The Gandhi Maidan is centrally located in the city of Patna. The Gandhi Maidan is a historical place and is considered as a landmark of the city. It has played an important role in the Independence movement and is a witness of the growth of the city. It is a destination of important rallies and fun & fairs, beside being the venue of Republic day Parade and Independence Day ceremony.
During the British period, it was known as Patna Lawn. It was the nerve center of the Champaran movement and the Quit India movement. The national leaders used to do rallies from this ground only. Mahatma Gandhi frequently visited the maidan for rallies and evening prayer.After Independence, Jai Prakash Narayan launched his massive movement from this ground.Even today, when the political parties wants to showcase their power, they organizes their massive rallies here only.
Gandhi Maidan is the center of activities. The prominent roads of Patna - Exhibition Road, Frazer Road and Ashok Rajpath have entry-exit at the Maidan, beside many other roads. The prominent buildings dots the periphery of the Maidan.
The Gandhi Maidan lies in the hub of the city of Patna. There are many places around the sprawling grounds that one can visit. Within a distance of half a kilometer lies the granary of Golgarh that was built in 1786 by the British. The Golgarh Falls is also located there. The Patna Sahib Gurudwara is 11 km away from Gandhi Maidan.
