This resource provides additional irrigation potential in Shimoga District. MCC constructed the dam and its allied works, downstream of the existing anicut across the river Tunga near Gajanur Village, Shimoga. The total length of the dam is 770m. This included 334m of spillway. Approximately 2,47,000 cu.m. of concrete has been laid for this work.

Gajanur is a small village located at a distance of 12 Km from Shimoga on Thirthahalli road. River Tunga flows through Gajanur village. This place is well known for the dam built across river Tunga. Gajanur Dam is an ideal picnic spot for the people around.
