The name Dal Lake is taken from Kashmir natural's lake called Dal Lake, is a small mid-altitude lake (1,775 m above sea level) near the village of Tota Rani in Kangra district (Himachal Pradesh) in northern India.

The lake is surrounded by deodar trees and is considered as a sacred spot as there is small Shiva mandir (shrine) on its bank. There are different kinds of fish that live in this lake. This lake has greenish water. The Dal Lake, located at a height of 1,775 meters, is a famous picnic destination of McLeod Ganj that is surrounded by rhododendrons, deodars, and junipers forest. The beautiful lake attracts many locals and visitors to spend a day excursion. The lake serves as an ideal base camp for trekkers coming from McLeod Ganj.

The Lake appears brown in color and is located on the main road towards Naddi and the Strawberry hills. There is a temple near the Lake dedicated to Goddess Kali where a fair is held every year in the month of September. The fair is attended by a number of locals and also by tourists.  The Lake can be reached by bus, taxi or on foot, taking around half an hour to 2 hours to explore the whole area. The annual fair held every year in September on the banks of this Lake is a great attraction to the tourists.
