This place hosts music performances from various renowned artists through out the year. Most of the concerts are classical in nature. Built in 1980, this place is paying tribute to a great musician, a violinist late T. Chowdiah.
This place of art savvy people for which Bangalore is famous, is located at the lower side of the Sankey Tank Bund that connects Sadashivnagar and Malleshwaram. Built in Violin shape this place is also said to be the first of its kind in India.
The premise has ample parking space. A small garden inside greets you, which is well maintained. There is also a canteen that has something for a quick meal and hot tea or coffee. The auditorium is having centralized air conditioning and has a seating capacity for 1000 plus people. The toilets and the auditorium are well maintained. The acoustics of the auditorium are really very good.
If you are in the city, check out this place on any evening to see if there are any cultural events that are organized. This state of the art auditorium is famous for conducting various dramas, music performances, seminars and many cultural activities.
Chowdiah Memorial Hall is a cultural centre in Bangalore which provides a home for musical and theatrical performances as well as competitions. It is administered by Academy of Music, an independent registered body, founded in 1961. The auditorium is built in the shape of a gigantic seven stringed violin, complete with the strings, keys, the bridge and the bow. It has marble foyer lit with chandeliers. This is probably the only auditorium in the World that is dedicated to the memory of a musician and shaped like a violin.
The auditorium hosts a wide range of events from Carnatic and Hindustani concerts, jazz, ballets, traditional and contemporary dance performances, fashion shows, plays, jugalbandis, ghazals, international music festivals, graduation ceremonies, and school day programmes.
