You can’t afford not to visit Alpather Lake while in Gulmarg. This triangular-shaped charming Lake is located at an altitude of about 4,511 metres that features a scenic backdrop of snow covered mountains, lush green landscapes and colourful flowers all around. Situated at the foot of the Alpather Mountains the immensely beautiful and scenic surroundings of the Lake make it a favourite picnic spot amongst tourists visiting Gulmarg.
The summer time is good to visit the Lake to enjoy the fresh clear water bubbling through the lake. The Lake is 13 kms from the town of Gulmarg. Adventure enthusiasts can trek all the way via Khilanmarg to reach the Alpathar Lake. The Lake makes an exciting day excursion for horse riding aficionados. So pack your picnic baskets and enjoy a day reading, playing or simply relaxing along this picturesque Lake.
The best time to visit Alpather Lake is during the summer months from May till September. The lake is frozen in winter months from November till February.
