Sunehri Masjid is an Indian mosque located near the Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Chandni Chowk, Delhi, once an imperial boulevard leading to the Red Fort. Also known as the Golden Mosque, the mosque was built by Roshan-ud-Daula Zafar Khan in 1721.
There is another Sunheri Masjid in Delhi, located outside the southwestern corner of Delhi Gate of Red Fort, opposite the Netaji Subhash Park, Nawab Qudsiya Begum, the wife of Emperor Ahmad Shah Bahadur in 1751, the two are often confused.
The name of the Sunehri Masjid raises a few questions, there being two mosques by this name & located in close proximity to each other. Sunehri Masjid in Chandni Chowk was constructed in 1721 by Roshan-ud-Daula, a Mughal noble, during the reign of Muhammad Shah & is also known as the Golden Mosque. The other mosque, its namesake, is located just a 100 M away from the Red Fort. Built by Nawab Qudsiya Begum, the wife of Emperor Ahmad Shah in 1751 and a connoisseur of art & architecture, its construction was executed under the supervision of Jawed Khan, a eunuch in Qudsiya Begum’s court.
