Rajamala is situated at a distance of 15 km from Munnar and is a home to almost half the population of Nilgiri Tahr.  The population is reduced and now its estimated to be about 1317 staying there.

Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary is a very famous tourist attraction in India.  Located 15 km from the famous hill station of Munnar, the sanctuary is the natural habitat of Nilgiri Tahr.  Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary is a part of Eravikulam National Park and was primarily established to protect endangered Nilgiri Tahr. It has been estimated about half the population of Nilgiri Tahr , around 1300 lives in Rajamala.
