How to Reach Old goa, India
It is best to visit the place on foot, since there is so much of history to seep in. Local guides, some approved by the tourism department of Goa, are available.Old goa by Road:
It is easy to get to Old Goa from Panaji. The bus service from Panaji (9 km) is frequent and takes 15-20 minutes, dropping passengers right in front of the Basilica of Bom Jesus. Most of the monuments you want to visit are concentrated around this site. Autorickshaws, taxis and shared taxis are also available from Panaji. The GTDC conducts guided coach tours - details and tickets are available with the GTDC hotel or the tourist office.
Old goa by Train:
The two main railway stations are Margao (Madgaon) and Vasco da Gama. The major connections are to Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Rajkot and Thiruvananthapuram. From other places in the north, east and southeast you can travel to Londa Junction and then transfer to a connecting train to Margao/Vasco da Gama.
Old goa by Air:
Goa has an international airport at Dabolim, 30 km from the capital, Panaji. The regular domestic connections are from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kochi and Chennai. From the airport to your hotel or to any of the towns, catch a cab or a metered taxi. If you are booked to stay at a hotel, most offer pick ups within their price.
