Itanagar Reserve Forest was declared as Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary with the geographical boundary as Pam River in the East, Pachin in the South, Neorochi on the North-East and Chingke stream in the North. The capital of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar in located within the Sanctuary.
The vegetation of this Sanctuary can be classified as tropical semi evergreen and wet evergreen. The main features of the forest are Heterogeneous mixture of the species with the merging of evergreen and semi evergreen forest into one another. Pure patches of bamboos are very common in almost all the area. The terrain is entirely hilly except the valleys and foothills. The hills are very broken and cut up by numerous streams and rivers. The valleys are narrow and the hill slopes are mostly steep to very steep.. The most common bamboos are found in these forest areas are Bambusa palida (Bijuli), Dendrocalamus hamiltonii (Kako). Tree species are Duabanga grandiflora (Khokan), Amoora Wallichii (Aman) and Toona ciliata (Poma) etc.
Wildlife in Arunachal Pradesh is so famous around the planet due to the fact that it is the sole state that houses an incredible four species of cats that include Tiger, Snow Leopard, Clouded Leopard and Leopard. Other cats including leopard cat, golden cat and many more can also be spotted here. The wildlife of Arunachal Pradesh also includes other cats that are more petite in dimensions like the civets, linsang, mongoose, bat and wee rodents including squirrels, rats and the porcupines.
While getting acquainted with the wildlife at Arunachal Pradesh, do not be surprised if you see the Himalayan Black Bear, Red Panda, Ghoral and other intriguing creatures.
If you happen to bear a meek spot for the birds the wildlife across Arunachal Pradesh will definitely not disappoint you. As a matter of fact, you can spot exotic species like the Temmincks Tragopan, Sclater's Monal, White Winged Wood Duck, Mishmi Wren, Bengal Florican and many more dazzling species.
