Tracing the history of attempts made to scale and summit the mighty Mount Everest - the highest Mountain in the world at 29, 029 feet above sea level - is the Everest Museum at 7000 feet altitude at the Lebong Cart Road on Jawahar Parbat.
The Museum showcases interesting memorabilia and photos of all those who braved the climb of the Mount Everest. It is an interesting display of the several mountaineers of India and their mountaineering gear such as the Climbing tools and equipment; technical clothing; head gear; and camping gear and so on. The Museum attracts all those curious tourists who have always wondered about the mountaineering gear that is required to be worn by the mountaineers at such high altitudes. This is the closest you will get to the Mountaineering Equipment used by great mountaineers who have successfully scaled and summitted the Mount Everest.
This museum would give you the feel of being on the high-altitude snowy mountains - a must-visit when you are in Darjeeling. Don t forget to buy souvenirs in the campus for folks back home.
The massive 68 acres of the Jawahar Parbat encompasses Everest Museum; Mountaineering Museum; Himalayan Institute of Mountaineering and Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in one single campus. It is such a treat to visit this place as you can visit all four attractions in one day.
