Chandanwadi is a rocky and verdant mountain valley and is located at 34.080, 75.415 coordinates – about 16 kilometres from Pahalgam at 9500 feet above sea level. Start out from Pahalgam in the Northeast direction. This stretch between Pahalgam and Chandanwadi is half the route to Amarnath Yatra and Pahalgam is the base camp for the Yatra.
River Lidder flows all along this trail between Pahalgam and Chandanwadi. It’s a lovely trek or drive between the two places. You’re surrounded by lush green conifers and meadows interspersed with patches of rock with a sparkling gushing river meandering through all the terrains. The journey is only half as beautiful as the Valley of Chandanwadi. Camping on raw and rugged terrain by the River Lidder is what Chandanwadi is famous for.
From Pahalgam to Chandanwadi, one may travel by Mini-bus, jeep, pony or on foot. Almost the entire trail follows the Lidder River up North. It is a very scenic trail with moderate grade trekking involved. Being one of the chief tourist spots of the area, Chandanwadi is well equipped with food stalls for any number of travelers.
