Distance: 8kms from Mapusa in North Goa
Calangute Beach is located in the village of Calangute at a distance of 8kms from Mapusa in North Goa. A popular tourist destination, also known as the ‘queen of beaches’, Calangute Beach is thronged by countless domestic as well as international tourists. It is perhaps the most well-known of all the beaches in Goa, although recent overcrowding by tourist has somewhat deprecated its natural splendour. Still, the beach offers the visitors a breathtaking view of the sea, with a long coastline that is dotted with countless shacks and restaurants serving delicious cuisines from across the globe.
Calangute Beach also offers opportunities for water sports, thanks to the few adventure sports companies that have set up shops here, with provisions for paragliding, jet skiing and others. Night time at Calangute Beach is a welcome respite from the other beaches in Goa, with most bars closing around ten to offer a peaceful setting during the night. Its close proximity to the railway station and the airport, as well as other sister beaches, is also an added incentive. Calangute Beach is surely a must visit for anyone planning to come to Goa.
The best time to visit Goa is during the festivals of Christmas and New Year, or during summers in the month of May when the weather is extremely pleasant.
