Varakal, India Overview
A coastal town in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala, Varkala is the ideal spot to spend an idyllic holiday away from the hustle bustle of the city. Varkala is the only place in southern Kerala where one can find cliffs just adjacent to the Arabian Sea. The spectacular palm-lined beaches, highly unusual land formations, and the 2,000 year old Janardanaswamy Temple, which is an important Vaishnavaite shrine, are some of the major tourist attractions in Varkala.
Varkala town lies in the coastal regions of Kerala in the Thiruvananthapuram district. It is a place where hills are located close to the sea. The town has many natural fishers and springs which makes it one of the favored tourist destinations. The beaches are relatively untouched and clean as well. One of the main beaches located in Varkala is the Papanasam Beach, close to the beach stands the Janardhana Swamy Temple. This temple is more than 2000 years old and is one of the attractions of the place. The temple is home to an old bell that was taken from an ancient shipwreck of a Dutch Freighter.
Varkala is a town in the Indian state of Kerala, about 50km north of Trivandrum and is home of the popular Papanasam Beach. Also, the Samadhi of Kerala's saint Sree Narayana Guru is situated in this town and hence has become a place of pilgrimage.
