Jubbal, India Overview
The hill station of Jubbal in Shimla district is situated on the banks of the Pabbal River. About 90 km to the east of Shimla, Jubbal in Himachal Pradesh was an erstwhile princely state.
Most Shimla travel guides list sparkling streams, turquoise lakes and picturesque landscapes, a favourite with trekkers and nature lovers, as Jubbal’s USP. Jubbal offers some of the most romantic destinations with mesmerizing sceneries and awe-inspiring vistas.
Best time to visit Jubbal is between April and October. Jubbal remains one of the underrated summer holiday destinations in Himachal Pradesh.
Located at an elevation of 1,901 m, some areas of Jubbal are bereft of vegetation, while others exhibit luscious greenery with thick forests. Jubbal princely state was ruled from 1835 to 1877 by Rana Karam Chand, who was the first Raja of Jubbal. The hill station has managed to keep alive its princely elegance through the mansions and forts.
Jubbal Palace is among the most prominent places to see in Jubbal. Designed by a French architect, tourists visiting the palace can see a blend of Chinese, Indian and European styles of architecture.
The lower portion of Rana's abode consists of sandstone and is noteworthy for the vast stacks of deodar timber used in its structure. Another beautiful aspect is the stunning display of the collection of ancient guns used by the royal families of Jubbal.
Tourists visiting Jubbal also visit Khara Pathar, a beautiful valley with lush green apple orchards, pine and deodar forests. It derives its name from a natural boulder, with the shape of an egg. One can walk through the forests which is an ideal way to explore the area and relax.
Jubbal celebrates the Hemis and Rampur Jatar Festivals in the month of June and July.
