Waithou Lake, Imphal, Manipur India

The Waithou Lake is situated in the Thoubal district of Manipur. The Lake is a perennial lake fed by the draining waters of the Ningthibi Canal, the place where the rivers Imphal and Thoubal meet.

Until the construction of a barrage and an embankment in the early 1970s, the Lake also harboured the threatened Ngaton fish species.

Urbanization, cultivation and animal waste, sewage and other pollutants now threaten the Lake's size, eco-system and very existence.

Besides a few species of fish, reptiles, and aquatic creatures, the picturesque lake is home to about 35 aquatic plants.
