Located 5 km away from Imphal, this garden is known for preserving and breeding rare and protected species of animals. One such rare species (not only in India, but in the world), the Brow-Antelered Thaimin Deer can be found here. The zoological gardens are surrounded by beautiful green hillocks and the atmosphere here is calm and peaceful.
Manipur Zoological Garden is the pride of Imphal. Established in 1976, the garden is situated at a distance of around 7 km from the state capital. With lush green fields on two of its sides, the zoological garden is providing shelter to many endangered and rare flora and fauna species. This uniqueness of the garden has won it the title of 'Jewel Box' of the state. Loaded with greenery, the garden is a treat for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
About 6 Kms. From Imphal towards the west, lies the Zoological Garden at Iroishemba, hidden half-a-mile from the Imphal-Kangchup road. Graceful brow-antlered deer (Sangai), one of the rarest species in the World, can be seen there in sylvan surroundings. A trip to this garden at the foot of pine-covered hillocks in the western-most corner of Lamphelpat will be an affair to remember.
