Tiger's Cave is located 4 kms north of the main monument complex. It was built as an open-air theatre, where cultural programmes could have been held during the Pallava period. Though it is very near the sea, the place is serene and calm.
These are the temples built cleaving the rocks. These temples were built during rein of Pallavas. There is one cave inside the temple complex, the entrance of which flanked by rows of tiger heads and for this reason, the complex came to be called as Tiger’s caves. The heads of the animal looking like that of tiger is in reality that of Yali, the hindu mythological tiger and for this reason its also known as Yali Mandapam. Also, in one of the structures, once some inscriptions had been discovered which led to an excavation bringing to light Subrahmanya temple.
