Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at Thorangtlang in Lunglei District. It lies on the western part of Mizoram, about 240 km from Aizawl via Thenzawl Village. It covers a 50 sq km area of tropical semi evergreen forest. The sanctuary acts as a passage for elephants, through which they migrate from Bangladesh. The main inhabitants in the sanctuary are tiger, leopard, elephant, gaur (Indian bison), wild dog, sambar, barking deer, sloth bear, hoolock gibbon, leaf monkey, common langur, rhesus macaque, glant squirrel, porcupine, slow lorris, jungal cat, wild boar and varieties of birds. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from October to March.
