The tiruvannamalai is famous for arunachala temple and Ashrams. Skandashram is the famous Ashram in Tiruvannamalai. It is perhaps one mile from Ramanasramam, up a well cared-for path, up the side of the mountain.
Ramana Maharishi lived at Skandashram from 1915 to 1922. This is where his mother joined him, and started preparing food for the ashram, rather than having prepared food carried up, as had been the case since the earliest years. After the mahasamadhi of Maharishi's Mother, and her subsequent interment at the base of the hill, Then Ramana Maharishi took residence at her samadhi, the location of the present day Ramana Asramam.
The Ashram was developed by Kandaswami who undertook to build the main part of what has become Skandashramam. In front of natural cave and two small rooms have been built lengthwise in inside. There is also a terrace in front of the Ashram with coconut palms and breathtaking panoramic view of Arunachaleswarar Temple.
Skandashram is maintained by Ramana Ashram and it is open throughout at the daytimes for visiters and meditation. The Ashram can be reached by a beautiful view of city and cleaned pathway originating from the back of Ramana Ashram. The Ashram can also be reached by going up a pathway starting opposite the West Gopuram of the Big Temple.
