Ross Island, Aberdeen, Andaman & Nicobar India

The Ross Island is a 20-minute boat ride from Aberdeen Jetty in Port Blair. Ross Island, the capital of Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the British  Raj days, now stands guard to the Port Blair harbour. There are historical ruins along the beach and a beautiful tropical forest. Important ruins include a church, swimming pool and the Chief Commissioner's residence. A small museum of the Indian Navy, called Samudrika, has a good collection of old records that depicts the history of the Ross Island. 

Ross island the then capital of Andaman And Nicobar islands during British period from 1858 to 1942 and 1945 to 1947. During 1942 to 1945, the island was under to grip of Japanese. This island is now under Indian Navy. This is just 20minutes sea journey from Aberdeen jetty of Port Blair. Cruises and port charters are available very frequently from Aberdeen to Ross island. People can also reach Ross island after visiting North bay coral island.

In Ross island people can see the ruins of buildings built during British period. Ruins of Church, Printing press, Government offices, Power house, Tennis court, Bakery, pond etc... can be seen. A museum called Smrithika is being maintained by Navy in this island. Some old photographs, documentary and photo copies of letters regarding the Ross island are displayed. A graveyard of Britishers surrounded by coconut palm trees is also available here. People can also visit the beaches located at the other side of the island by walk. Fearless deers and peacocks are found in the island. The island is full of coconut and palm trees. There are so many places in the island for the visitors to sit and relax.

Ross Island, which is accessible from Aberdeen Jetty through a boat ride, is situated at the entry region of Port Blair harbor. Ross Island, once the administrative head quarters of British Colonial Rulers, still bears the ruins of a Church and cemetery. It was during the British rule that the island was developed to a perfect township. Many reminiscent of old British regime are still alive in this stunning Island.
