The fort is situated on the banks of the River Terekhol and is around 20 Kms from Vengurla.Once a bustling port and a major trading settlement during the reign of the Marathas, Vengurla's jetty today is nothing remarkable but an excellent point from which to view the setting sun.The fort is located on northern part of Goa, and forms the border between Goa and Maharashtra. The fort was founded by the emperor of Sawantwadi Maharaja Khem Sawant Bhonsle, in the 17th century.
