Located at an elevation of 1290 m above sea level, Horsley-hills is situated in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh and is one of the eminent places of the South Indian state. It is a popular hill station in the state and is the exit point for the Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary which is situated 87 Kms from Horsley-hills.

The myth states that a little girl used to live here named Mallamma. She was taken care of by Elephants and used to heal the local people on the hills. She disappeared suddenly and people thought that she was a Goddess and thus the people made a temple for her named as Mallamma Temple.
Horsley Hills is the famous hill resort of Andhra Pradesh. Horsley Hills is an enthralling, charming little hill station. It is a beautiful summer resort with luxurious vegetation and rich fauna. Named after WD Horsley, the then collector of Kadapa District, these hills are situated at an altitude of 1,265m from the sea-level. It is said that WD Horsley built himself a bungalow to escape the heat waves from the plains during summer.

This wonderful hill resort was discovered by W.D. Horsley in 1870. It is located along the grand ranges of Eastern Ghat and is about 150 km from Tirupathi by road via Madanapalle.
The last stretch of the Horsley hill, which is of 10 km, has difference of height of 746 meter. This difference between the point and the base shows how steep the hill is. The hill is about 1265 meter above sea level. The discoverer of the hill constructed many houses here. The mighty hills and the sylvan surroundings here are full of calm and charm. The beauty of the hill was increased by the cool mountain here. This hill has groves of teak, red sandalwood, eucalyptus, gulmohar and many other precious products. Huge rocks can be seen among the verdant expanse of vegetation.
A panoramic view of the lower lands can be enjoyed from the top of the Horsley hill. This place has a very pleasant climate and the temperature is average 18°C less than the plains below. The visitors need to carry warm clothes if planning to spend night there.

It is believed that earlier the place was known as Enugu Mallamma Konda because a saintly lady called `Mallamma` was protected and fed by an Elephant living on this hill. The term `Enugu` means elephant and hence the name of the hill is so. The Horsley`s Bungalow can be visited by the tourists. Another interesting thing here is the eucalyptus tree, which is believed to be more than 100 years old. A sericulture centre is also worth visit here, which is often visited by numerous birds.
The nearest railway station of the Horsley hill is Madanapalle. It is about 40 km from here and the town is 27 km away. However, this hill resort has road links with Bangalore, Madanapalle, Chennai and Tirupathi. Tirupathi is the nearest airport but many prefer the Bangalore airport for convenience.
