The Chitrakoot Falls is a waterfall located near Jagdalpur, in Bastar district in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh on the Indravati River. Chitrakot waterfall is a beauty situated in south bastar, Chattisgarh. This waterfall is on Indravati river. The height of the falls is about 29 metres (95 ft). The breadth of the waterfall varies, as the water level in the river goes down drastically during summer. However during a monsoon the river touches both the banks and is filled with silt. In contrast, during summer the water carries no silt and looks different. This is a contrast to Jog falls which has water that looks white even during monsoon.
This is the largest waterfall of India and also may be the widest waterfalls in Asia, so it is popularly called as "The Niagara falls of India". The wideness of the waterfall depends on the water level in the river Indrabati. And session by session it varies drastically, as in summer the span of the Chitrakoot waterfall is minimum, but during monsoon the water level of the river Indrabati touches the both banks and the waterfall also formed the widest, nearly 150 m in wide. And the falls look like wild in nature.
Not only waterfall, Chitrakoot is also popular due to the Hindu legendary Lord Ram. There has many Hindu spiritual temples and pilgrimage place. And also various Hindu festivals like, Makar Sankranti, Ramnaamvi and Somvati Amavasya are celebrated here with a complete spiritual system.
