Built over 500 years ago, Billeswar Temple is situated at Belsor village near Nalbari. Even though this spot was once found with a shivlinga, the temple is dedicated mainly to Lord Krishna. There is a legend associated with a priest who had a cow that refused to be milked. After following the cow, the priest could find that the cow gave milk on a bush of 'virina,' a kind of grass. This incident was brought to the notice of a local king, who got the place dug and found a shivlinga. A temple was erected at that spot, which was called as Birreswar, then Billeswar, and now Belsor. Even now the temple draws the attentions of a large number of devotees.
Nalbari town is 2 km away from the National Highway 31 and 60 km away from Guwahati bus stand. The nearest railway junction is Rangia.
