Statue of Dupleix is a 2.88 meters tall memorial statue of Joseph Francois Dupleix located at Goubert Avenue, Pondicherry, erected over six exquisitely carved granite pillars. The statue is dedicated to Francois Dupleix, the Governor General of French establishment in India. It was built in honour of the Governor in the year 1870 who reign was from the year 1742 to 1754. It is a beautiful example of French architecture and you can see the intricate granite columns which adorn the statue. It is commonly known as Dupleix statue and draws a lot of tourists all day long.
It is situated in Goubert Avenue. Another example of the French influence in Pondicherry is a marble statue of the heroic French damsel Joan of Arc, which is located in front of the Church of Our Lady of the Angles. The statue is placed in the middle of a garden.statue was erected in 1923. It is situated at Dumas Street.
This statue has been constructed over granite columns at Place du Republique. There is a small children’s park located just opposite this statue that is located towards the southern end of the Goubert Avenue.
This statue of Joseph Francois Dupleix lies on Beach Road, which is reminiscent of the French colonial rule in Pondicherry.
