Sevagram Ashram is one of the places of pilgrimage for those who want to have a firsthand feel of the way Gandhiji lived and fought for India's freedom. On the eve of the Dandi March, Gandhiji had made a declaration that he would return to Sabarmati Ashram only after winning Swaraj. The Salt Satyagraha was a great success but Gandhiji failed in his mission of gaining the Swaraj. In 1932 / 1934 at the request of Jamnalalji he came to Wardha. For some time, he lived in the Prarthana Mandir of Mahilashram and then shifted to Segaon, a village near Wardha. Jamnalalji gave his land for the Ashram. Gandhiji named the place as Sevagram.
Sevagram has become an international pilgrimage destination for it remained the centre of Gandhiji's activities till India won its freedom.
