Kavalur Observatory, Vellore, Tamil Nadu India

Kavalur Observatory is in kavalur in javadu hills which is a part of Eastern Ghats and is placed in Alangayam in Vellore district. It is 725 m above sea level with a latitude of 12 o 34.6’N and longitude of 78 o 49.6’E. And it is purposefully built in a place which is far away from city lights and industrial areas so as to be closer to earth’s equator for covering both northern and southern hemispheres with considerable ease. And its longitudinal position makes it the major astronomical facility between Australia and South Africa for observing the southern objects.
