Guru Ghasidas National Park is also known as Sanjay National Park. The National Park is placed in Sarguja and Koriya districts of Chhattisgarh. It is one of the most famous wildlife sanctuaries in central India. It was decided the status of a National Park in the year 1981 for protecting the rich and diverse flora and fauna of the area.
The flora here frequently comprises of mixed deciduous forest with teak, sal and bamboo trees. The Fauna consists of Tiger, Leopard, Spotted Deer, Sambar Deer, Wild Boar, Nilgai, Chinkara, Civet, Porcupine and Monitor Lizard. More than three hundred species of birds including Golden Hooded Oriole, Racket-Tailed Drongos, Indian Pitta Rufus-Treepie, Lesser Adjutant, Red-Headed Vulture, Cinereous Vulture, Indian White-Rumped Vulture, Ezyption Vulture, Nightjars have made the park their nesting ground.
The vegetation of Guru Ghasidas National Park consist mainly of mixed deciduous forest with teak, sal and bamboo trees. The diverse vegetation of the region consists of a wide variety of mammal population. It is also an ideal place to watch migratory birds.
