Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur is located in the Petaling Street. It is called as Chi-Chong-Kai by the local Chinese. The area is known as the Petaling Street because the track from here led to the mines in the Petaling area some 17km away.
Chinatown is also a well-known bargain hunter’s paradise, a place where you can find all sorts of stuff from Chinese herbs to imitation goods. At night, its main market area, Petaling Street, transforms into a lively and vibrant night market, filled with hundreds of stalls offering all kinds of goods at dirt-cheap prices, and the best thing is, the prices can be brought lower still as haggling is the way of life here
Petaling Street maintains much of its traditional atmosphere, especially at night when vendors spread their wares out on the street. Chinatown market is famous for its pirated goods. You can buy pirated CDs, DVDs, copy watches, (Rolex, Gucci, Cartier, Breitling etc.), T-shirts (Nike, Reebok, Billabong, Quicksilver etc.), garments, leather goods, jewelry and much more. If you are not interested in shopping you can enjoy the bustling place by merely wandering and loitering in the area.
