Mariamman Teppakulam is one of the largest temple tanks in South India. The temple ‘Vinayakar’, dedicated to Lord Vigneshwara (Sri Ganesh) is located in the center of the tank. The place is well known for the celebrations of the Float festival which is celebrated in the Tamil month of Thai. Pilgrims from all over India flock to Madurai to celebrate the Float Festival.
The Mariamman Teppakulam at Madurai has the biggest temple tank in the state. It is said that when earth was dug out from this place by Thirumalai Naicker, he obtained an idol of Lord Ganesha.
