The Kurumbapatti Zoological Park, situated on a sprawling 11.5 hectares of reserve forest land, at the foothills of Shevaroyan Hills near here will be developed at a cost of Rs. 10 crore. The park was opened for visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The park with spotted deer, sambar deer, white peacock, bonnet macaque, grey pelican, little egret, greyheron, turtle, marsh crocodile, star tortoise, plum headed parakeet, rose ringed parakeet, a 58-year-oldelephant Andal and yellow-footed green pigeon treron phoenicoptera were the main attractions for the visitors. Children playground is also present.Though works are on to establish new enclosure, tourists said that the presence of fewer animals and birdsmakes the park less attractive.
Kurumbapatti Zoological park is located at about 6 km away from Salem city. The park spread across an area of 11.5 hectares at the base of the Shevaroyan Hills. The area is a reserved forest and developing it into a park had cost about Rs10 crore. The park is inhabited by spotted deer, white peacocks, bonnet macaque, sambar deer, grey pelican, little egret, turtles, grey herons, marsh crocodile, plum headed parakeet, star tortoise, rose ringed parakeet, yellow footed green pigeons and an 58 year old elephant.
There is also a children’s park in the vicinity. The place is a wonderful site to spend time amidst the bed of nature.
