Elk falls is located 7 kilometres away from Kotagiri, and even though the name suggests otherwise, has little do with actual Elk. So do not go to this spot hoping to see a herd of elk grazing in the vicinity, you will be left sorely disappointed. What you can see there will leave you mesmerised though. A beautiful western style residence from the days of the British Raj welcomes all who come to the Elk Falls.
The best season to visit would be during the monsoon, as it is during this time that the neighbouring Kookal Valley blooms with orange blossoms. A sight to behold it is indeed. Elk Falls is situated close to the Uyilathi Village. The waterfall in itself is a treat to the eyes. The slow majesty of the mountain stream coupled with the torrential might of the fall gives an almost surreal aura to the place and its surroundings.
Elk Waterfalls is one of the prominent places located in Kotagiri district of Tamil Nadu. This place is mainly known for its scenic beauty. Located at a distance of 7 kms from Kotagiri this place is situated below the Ulliyatti village. Surrounded with well maintained British cottages, this is one of the most picturesque villages of Tamil Nadu. While the little village provides some of the most exemplary sites of Kotagiri, it is further enriched with the Elk water falls that flows in the mountainous region that surrounds the village. The water falls remains full of water during the rainy season which makes it most picturesque site in Tamil Nadu. The water fall passes through some of the steep gorges and lands up into the picturesque valley. From the surrounding areas one can enjoy some of the amazing views of the exotic valley which is called Kookal. This valley is popularly known for the cultivation of oranges. Surrounded with greenery this is a quite place which provides ample opportunity to enjoy the flow of silver water through the valley.
Thus known for its picturesque valleys and attractive water falls this is one of the pleasant tourist spots of Tamil Nadu.
Elk Falls is situated at a distance of 7 km from Kotagiri, and is placed under Uyillatti village. The road crosses the houses of Badaga quiet landscape. On the way to the village is the first Kannerimukku European residence in the Nilgiris Collector constructed by Sullivan in the year of 1819.
On Elk falls the water is filled only in the monsoon period, but it is value to visit at all times. The vision from at this point is great and you can see by a beautiful valley called "kookal" known for its oranges. Or else it is a wonderful place and just to hear the sound of water, and then a click large number of photographs.
