National Railway Museum, India, located in Chanakyapuri in Delhi, has a unique collection of rail engines and locomotives. It is one of the most important Delhi Museums. The locomotives of the 19th century are preserved in the National Railway Museum of India for display. The display of different patterns of trains are in the outdoor section. On the other hand the indoor section of the museum stresses on the details of the progress and development in the history of railway in India.
The National Railway Museum in Delhi established in February 1977, was set up in an area of 10 acres of land. National Railway Museum of India in Delhi preserves a wide and varied collection of rare and antique steam locomotives, carriages, saloons and other railway artifacts. This museum attracts tourists from far and wide. The mechanisms, which were used in the ancient times are kept in a secured way for the coming generations to have an idea about them.
People can see the last steam engine as well as the first electric powered engine of the 1930s in the National Railway Museum, India. The main interests of the museum are the special carriages belonging to British and Indian lords, namely the Viceregal dining car, the Maharaja of Mysore's personal train with both sleeping and day compartments and the Gaekwar of Baroda’s Saloon.
