The Guindy National Park, 2.70 sq.KM wide is unique in more ways than one. It has the rarest vegetation type – the tropical dry evergreen vegetation. It is one of the smallest national parks and is situated right in the heart of a metropolitan city - Chennai. But perhaps the best of all is that it has a role in both ex-situ and in-situ conservation.
Guindy National Park and Snake Park are in Guindy ,a good family picnic spot .It is the smallest of the national parks in India. It is a sanctuary to the endangered Black Bucks, ,Spotted Deer. Mongoose, Jackals, Monkeys, reptiles and birds also live there. The Deer Park and the Snake Park are supported by the World Wildlife Fund. They are located in the Raj Bhavan premises at Guindy, within the city limits. There are about 24 varieties of trees are there in the park and maintained. This mini wild park in one of ia few in the world that is located inside the City.
Explore Chennai's wildlife without even leaving the city. Guindy National Park is located right in the heart of the city. Hundreds of acres are open to the public to wander the nature trails, sit by the lakes and ponder life under centuries-old towering banyan trees. You'll surely see plenty of birds such as the kingfisher and parakeet, but if you're lucky you may spot black buck or spotted deer as well.
One end of the park is Raj Bhavan and the other end is Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai. Adjacent to the National Park is the Snake Park. This park is house for a large number of Snakes from the deadly King Cobra to Vipers, Python and other reptiles. There are preserved specimens of reptiles in the park The Snake Park publishes periodicals. Adjacent to the Snake Park is the Children's Park.
