Known locally as 'Khao Din', Dusit Zoo is Thailand's very first zoo, and has been a sanctuary to some 1,600 animals for more than 60 years. The zoo is always a great day out anywhere in the world and Bangkok is no exception. The animals are sorted according to species and Dusit is noted for having one of the best collections of Gibbons in the world. There are numerous large mammals on show, Indian Elephants, Rhinos, etc. and the zoo has a particularly large aviary. Aside from the animals, Dusit Zoo has plenty of places to eat and there are a variety of resting areas where you can have picnics, etc. As there are around 12 acres of lake in the 50 acre park, there are plenty of paddle boats for you to enjoy. If you like something a bit racier, there’s a Go-Cart Track! Very much the same format as zoos elsewhere in the world, you know what you are getting with a visit to Dusit Zoo. However, unless you are a fanatic, a zoo is unlikely to be high on your list of priorities if you only have a few days in the capital.
