The Sadras fortress was established in the seventeenth century. At that time it was made as a portion of the Dutch Coromandel. So, mainly the tourists now can see the remains of the Dutch architecture. There are some portions of the fortress however, where one can witness the ancient South Indian architectural patters. In the museum, there are excellent muslins preserved properly. These are the muslins that were woven here before the re-establishment. The place was very famous for this high quality muslin. The muslin items were exported to the other states and countries. Other than that there are another two things that the place was famous for, one is pearl and the other being edible oil. Some of the examples of the pearls are still available in the museum of the fort. The tourists feel amazed looking at the finesse that they offer. Some of the parts of the fort have been damaged due to the colonial wars. The fort was later overtaken by the British East India Company. After the British rule the Archeological Survey of India overtook the fort and made the necessary renovations. From the Dutch Cannons to the museum, from the ruins of old architectures to the remains of old colonial rein, the Sadras fortress is vibrant example of history and over the ages has become history itself.
