Sarasbaug is the most famous garden in Pune. Children like it the most. When Parvati was under construction the Peshwas used to come here to ensure proper working of the Parvati construction. There is small lake near it which drew the Peshwas attention, and he ordered to dug up the 25 acers land and made a pond and let the lake water in it. He kept a island in the center and built a garden on it. There is a Bird called 'Saras', the garden is hence named Sarasbaug.
The Construction of the Temple started in 1750 under the direction of the Sawai Madhavrao Peshwa and Mahadji Shinde of the Maratha confederacy. The temple construction completed in 1784 with the idol of Hindu Lord Ganesh in the temple. The temple was built in the Lake near the Parvati Temple which was also the primary residence of the Head of the Maratha confederacy.
Evenings are best for a stroll through this beautiful garden on the top of a small hillock in the center. Saras Baug is a major landmark in City of Pune.
