Dweep means an island; it is a group of 7 islands on the tributaries of Kabini River flowing into the forests.Kuruva Dweep is a series of islands formed on the Kabini river in the Wayanad district of Kerala. Kabini is Tributary of Cauvery river. Dweep in Malayalam means island. The Kabini river splits in to two at the Kuruva Dweep and joins back again. Although much of the river is shallow in these islands , some regions are very deep. In those deep regions crocodiles can be found. Boating facility is provided here by the District Tourism Promotion Council of Wayanad. It makes an ideal picnic spot with trees, animals, birds and exotic orchids and herbs. From the mainland, a ferryboat will transport to one of the islands, and from the other side of this island a bamboo raft facility is provided to go to another island. Standing on the raft and drifting on the river is very adventurous and exciting. At some places the river is shallow and runs between rocks and creeks with beautifully shaped driftwood jutting out to make their presence felt. One can just sit on these rocks forever in the shade of huge trees with the water lapping the feet gently or one can hop from rock to rock and explore the other islands.

These mind blowing characteristics have made this place attractive to the tourists who are nature lovers or travelers who love silent atmosphere. Other unique characteristics of these islands are the bridges made of bamboo and rare species of trees.
Kuruva Islands are surrounded by streams and can travel through the rivers by using the boats provided by the Kerala Tourism Department. It will take around three hours to cover each island. Entry to this island is restricted by the Forest department and a pass is mandatory during rainy seasons and the frequencies of animals are higher. This island "Kuruva Dweep" is 15kms away from Mananthavady, 58kms from SulthanBathery and 40kms from Kalpetta. A cluster of islands, streams, bamboo groves, mini forests.there is enough reason why Kuruva Island is one of the most sought after destinations in Wayanad. We could safely add a few monkeys, birds and butterflies to get the equation right.
