Gupta Godavari is situated at a foot hill about 18 km from Chitrakoot town, with a gurgling stream flowing between two rocks. There are two streams actually, one is wide and high and other is long and narrow known by the appellative of Gupta-Godavari. The main tourist attraction of Gupta Godavari are the beautiful caves and natural carvings inside the caves with varied designs.
Nestled in the footsteps of a majestic hillock, Gupt Godavari presents a stream that goes beneath a pair of caves, which is believed to be the court of Sri Ram and his brother Lakshman. The caves carries two throne like rock structures that testifies the said belief.
Out of the two caves, one is high and wide with a narrow entrance through which a person can hardly go by. The other cave is long and narrow and the perennial stream flows in between the base of the caves. Actually, this stream that flows through the caves brought this place the name Gupta-Godawari. Natural carvings with lovely designs are an added attraction of this place.
