The Farakka Barrage is a low height Dam across the River Ganges near the Farakka Barrage township and less than 30 kms north of Dhulian in Murshidabad District. Located at 24°48′16″N 87°55′59″E, the Farakka Barrage is 7350 feet long across the Ganges River.
This Barrage which took 14 years to construct was operational in 1975 with the purpose to divert water into Hooghly River through the Farakka Feeder Canal during dry months from January and June.
The Barrage gives fabulous views of River Ganges in all its glory. This is a fantastic point to take click the great Ganges as well as sunrise and sunset on the Ganges.
Slightly north of this barrage are boating activities for tourists.
