Phulchowki in Kathmandu is named after a Hindu goddess. Many Hindus make their pilgrimage here. The tallest peak reaches a height of 2765 m. The city was once thought to be Shangri-la. The city has now become a major tourist destination. Along the main road, numerous nurseries have been established. These showcase the importance of botany in the region.
Phulchowki is situated 20km south-east of Kathmandu. It can be easily reached by taxi in an hour. Before reaching Phulchowki though it is worthwhile stopping at Gadeveri Gardens left/east turn from Kathmandu, the taxi driver should know the place) along the way and birding the road there, it has Spotted Forktail along the river, which may not be easy elsewhere and other birds forest birds similar to Pulchowki.
The Phulchowki hiking in Nepal is perhaps the most fascinating wilderness exploration trip around Kathmandu valley. Trek to Godavari lies at the foot of Phulchowki and provides access to Nepal’s famous Botanical garden which has a fascinating collection of plants. Because of the prominence of varieties of birds in Godavari Phulchowki trek area, this trail is also commonly known as the Bird watching trekking trail in Nepal. Situated at 2,762 m Phulchowki is the highest of peaks ringing the Kathmandu valley.
Offering unforgettable experiences of the lives of the village and hill people of the Kathmandu Valley, this hike also includes excellent views of the mountains from the summit of Phulchowki. The trail starts form Godavari, the national botanical garden. The heavily wooded slopes of Pulchowki are renowned for the large variety of birds and butterflies to be seen. There are no food and drink facility, the food must be carried. This is another ideal place to view Kathmandu and magnificent Himalayan range.
