Madhya Kailash is one of the most popular temples in Chennai city in South India. This temple is located in the beginning of the most happening place of Chennai - IT corridor aka Old Mahabalipuram High Road. To be precise, this temple is located at the junction of IT corridor and Sardar Patel Road opposite to Kasturiba Nagar MRTS train station.
Although the name of the temple is Madhya Kailash, this temple is not dedicated to Lord Shiva; this temple is dedicated to his son Lord Ganesha. The temple having a small tower also has Dhwajatambha (flag staff) and bali peet opposite to the main shrine. The sanctum sanctorum present inside the main shrine houses the main deity Vijaya Ananda Vinayakar. In fact there are two idols in the sanctum - one big beautiful idol of Ganesha and a small idol of Ganesha in the front side. The outer area of the sanctum has two bronze idols (utsav idols) of Ganesh - both are too beautiful - one is Ananda Vinayak and another is Nardana Vinayak (dancing Ganesh). Outside the sanctum but within the main shrine, there are six bronze idols of Lord Muruga called as ArupadaiVeedu - the forms of Muruga in his six famous adobes. The idols are placed elegantly one after the other.
The 20-km six-lane IT corridor from Madhya Kailash to Siruseri is now home to several IT companies, a few hotels, eateries, colleges and a few retail outlets. A number of residential projects already completed and under various stages of implementation provide housing to thousands of techies and students commuting every day. As land prices are soaring, housing is becoming expensive even in suburban areas.
